“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." – Romans 12:2
“Change” is an all too familiar call in our current culture. In January, the world watched a Women’s March protest for change in laws and policies; on March 8, the 2017 International Women’s Day issued a “Be Bold for Change” campaign. As Christian women, we know that when life happens, only God’s Spirit empowers us to go beyond change, to actually be “transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
To harvest this awareness for needed change, the women’s ministry of the Broward Church (a region of the South Florida Church of Christ) hosted a themed women’s event, “Beyond Change,” on March 11. Approximately 440 women attended a morning brunch and fellowship, punctuated by door prize giveaways, ice breaker contests and a centerpiece competition. Hearing personal stories of transformation is a staple at our women’s day programs. But this year, a moderator facilitated a three-woman panel; these sisters shared vulnerably and courageously about repentance and renewal. Think testimonies – but with a twist!
Guest speaker Meegan Zillman, women’s ministry leader from the Chicago Church of Christ, spoke with a scholar’s insight and a humorist’s outlook – a wonderful combination! A week later, our women Community Group leaders gathered to share good news, build a harvest prayer list and receive follow-up training.
As of this writing, God has blessed us with six new sisters-in-Christ since our women’s event. Clearly, as an old hymn states, “There is much to do, there’s work on every hand.” How thankful are we to offer this message of radical transformation! We serve an amazing God who calls and enables us to go beyond change.
